Second Week of Advent – Keep Trading Your Fears of Joy

Jeff Good – December 10, 2017

Dear Friends,

This advent season, here at Christ Community Church, we’re trying to slow down, treasure up all these things, and ponder them in our hearts, just like Mary did.  We’re being amazed at God’s sovereignty, we’re trading our fears for joy, we’re praying for peace, and we want to be like the shepherds when they spread the word.

We’re also trying to look at these, often too familiar, happenings through the eyes of a child.

And maybe, just maybe, we can recapture some long lost child-like wonder.

I hope “Sharon’s Christmas Prayer” helps, and I hope you can join us one Sunday, soon.

“She was five,

sure of the facts,

and recited them with slow solemnity convinced every word was revelation.

She said they were so poor they had only peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to eat,

and they went along way from home without getting lost.

The lady rode a donkey, the man walked, and the baby was inside the lady.

They had to stay in a stable with an ox and an ass (hee-hee)

but the Three Rich Men found them because a star lited the roof.

Shepherds came and you could pet the sheep but not feed them.

Then the baby was borned.

And do you know who he was?

Her quarter eyes inflated to silver dollars.

The baby was God!

And she jumped in the air

whirled round, dove into the sofa

and buried her head under the cushion

which is the only proper response

to the Good News of the Incarnation.”

Plans for the future

How to leave an eternally significant legacy. (April – June)
After Easter we will sit with the resurrected Jesus, as did his first followers, and hear His final commission, His last command – Go! Make disciples! In other words “how to say what we really want to say to those we love most – in the living years.”

The Miracles of Jesus then and now (June – August)
So Jesus did amazing miracles while here on earth – so what – how can I get in on those today? How can the miraculous power of Jesus show up in my life today, in my marriage, with my kids or parents, at my work? We will figure that out together this summer.
